Silver Palace published a detailed breakdown of its combat system as part of “The Science of All Things” dev series, ahead of the Dichotomy Beta Test. The refreshed combat adds new enemies exclusive to the test, along with several new battle mechanics detectives will need to learn to survive Silvernia’s streets.

New Enemies

The test introduces a set of enemies making their first appearance in Silvernia, each built with unique combat mechanics and dedicated battle animations rather than reused movesets.

Combat Features

  • Parries — a yellow circle appears as an enemy winds up an attack; parrying just before the hit lands reduces damage taken and deals damage back. Successful parries can be chained into combos for rapid follow-up attacks.
  • Executions — once an enemy is Stunned, an Execution deals significant damage and leaves them in a temporarily Weakened State that rewards aggressive follow-up.
  • Synchronised Combat — performing a Charged Attack or Charged Skill and then switching characters keeps the outgoing character on the field until their action finishes, letting multiple characters fight at once and combine skills for extra combat potential.

Battle Mechanics

  • Weakened States — enemies hit with an Execution stay temporarily weakened, opening a window for unrelenting attacks.
  • Resonance Effects — characters build a Resonance meter as they attack; once full, a Resonance Effect tied to their Reactor attribute triggers a significant damage increase.

Casual Mode

Players who prefer a more relaxed pace can switch to Casual Mode, which lets characters chain stylish combos just by repeatedly clicking the left mouse button. With Casual Mode enabled, characters also trigger a Time Dilation effect and show an on-screen prompt before an incoming hit, giving newer detectives more room to react.
