Lore

Crowley held the title of "Most Popular Mentor" every year he taught. His slightly awkward West Constante accent and genuine smile won over countless students, including Herbert. In A.F.2@1, Crowley defied objections and took Herbert, who was unremarkable at that time, as his student. Together, they crossed mountains, forded streams, and trekked deserts, leaving footprints outside one D-Rift after another. Herbert can still remember the shock of seeing a D-Rift for the first time. Crowley stood before the billowing black mist, his silhouette small against it. "Shh—can you hear that?" Herbert closed his eyes. All he heard was the sound of a silent, rolling ocean; the world seemed to drift away. Crowley was thrilled. "This is poetry," he said. "The most mysterious, profound poetry in the universe." Years later, Herbert's memories of Crowley had mostly faded— how they worked together, argued, and even how he "accidentally" killed him. But he would always remember that smile beneath the black mist. In that moment, he saw the poetry.
