Lore

Pollux dreamed. He was clad in silver armour, receiving a sword, smooth as moonlight, from the hands of a majestic king. He mounted a tall white horse and galloped into a cavern, the trees at its mouth whispering as he plunged underground. In the depths lurked a shadow, dark green and monstrous, a mountain of flesh with strange, glowing eyes. "Creature that harms the kingdom," Pollux declared, "I cannot suffer you to threaten our sacred realm. Today, this blade of justice will end you." The monstrous mountain shuddered, answering with a terrifying roar. Pollux did not understand its language, nor did he care to. He raised the sword and fought the evil-tinged thing. Its tentacles writhed in the dimness, clashing against the radiant blade with a sound like a cracked bell. And as in every hero's tale, the brave knight mounted the creature's back and, with a fierce cry, drove the sword deep into its chest. The monster collapsed. Pollux, breathless, stared at the mark spreading beneath the blade. How could such a warm, bright red blood flow from something so ugly and evil? He woke suddenly. The sticky sensation of blood on his hands seemed impossible to scrub away. From the corner of his eye, he saw the old book Castor cherished, hidden in a gap behind the bed. He flipped through it idly, the pages falling open to the knight's tale Castor loved so. There, in the centre of the page, was a prophecy: *When the evil monster is defeated by the warrior, all will see a vision in the sky; the sun will turn to darkness, and the moon to blood.* Pollux frowned and tossed the book back into its hiding place with disdain. Beneath the moonlight, he murmured a prayer. "The Light's servant is sent here to bless you, to cleanse you of your sins, to return from darkness to light, and to join all pure and righteous souls in the promised land..." But the Lightbearer offered no comfort to his devout squire. The nightmare's unease still trembled in his heart, where his slumbering soul wept silently.
