Reason for Becoming a Trekker
CV Excerpt 1
"Eleanor, our beloved daughter... Who knows where she is now in the world, suffering all alone?"
"Don't worry. Once she runs out of money, she'll come home... And all of you, listen carefully: anyone who lets word of this get out will never set foot in this house again!"
—A very angry noble couple
CV Excerpt 2
"... She's a highborn young lady from Gold District! When she first came asking us to teach her 'combat skills,' no one dared. Our amateur moves hardly qualify as combat skills—and what if her parents accused us of kidnapping her?"
—A member of the Ashwind Clan
CV Excerpt 3
"She's always bringing people here for a meal. At first, I wondered how a young girl like her had so many friends. Then I asked and found out she didn't know any of them. She just felt sorry for them... You don't see many people that kind these days."
—A restaurant owner in Ash District
CV Excerpt 4
"I was working on a deadline at the café when everything suddenly went black. When I came to, she was sitting across from me with a table full of desserts... She said she had studied art too and thought I was working too hard... Oh my god, did the god of manga descend from heaven to take pity on me?"
—An overworked, exploited manga artist

—Minova
Someone filled her head with far too many romantic notions about Trekkers. I hear Cangwu holds regular anti-scam seminars. She ought to attend one.
—An expert Trekker who wishes to remain anonymous
TA Feedback
It is worth noting that during our information validation process, we were questioned by people sent by the Fitzroy family. We heard that, before Eleanor became an official Trekker, her family would have bodyguards secretly follow and protect her. They don't do that anymore, but I'm sure they're still keeping a close eye on their young lady from the shadows.
—Willow
Appendix
1. Precious Sundial Compass: Said to be a treasured heirloom of a famous Trekker family. For some reason, it stopped working as soon as I bought it.
2. Mysterious Crystal Searchlight: Purchased at auction. Said to attract mysterious creatures in the Wilds.
3. Enchanted Music Box: The seller claimed that listening to it three times before bed every night for a month would awaken the Trekker energy within the user's body and turn the user into the strongest Trekker.
The Greatest Adventurer's Guide in the World (Part One)
Every great adventure needs a grand beginning.
This morning, I saw a Queen Alexandra's Birdwing in the garden, resting on a newly bloomed iris.
This must be my very own grand beginning.
[Adventurer's Guide]
I began writing this guide with her encouragement.
She is the head maid of the house, the woman who saved my life, and the person I admire the most.
She told me many stories that could not be found in books.
She said that beyond the walls of the Cities lived people known as "Trekkers."
They could sing and drink in the Wilds, and they could climb "Monoliths."
Trekkers were free to go on adventures instead of attending lessons every day.
She said I was still too young to become a Trekker.
She told me to write down every interesting thing that happened in my life so I could prepare for adventures in the future.
This is Eleanor's Guide to Adventuring.
[I Never Want to Paint Again]
I argued with my parents again today...
I don't think I am suited to painting. I have studied it for ten years, but I have made no progress at all over the past year or two.
When I was little, whenever I did not want to practice, they would tell me an amazing story.
Mother would always stop at the most exciting part, and no matter how much I begged, she would not continue until I finished my painting.
But now Mother and Father are angry. They think I should not waste my talent.
I don't understand. Why can't even the people closest to me understand this? What "talent" do I have...?
I have been writing this guide for years, but lately I haven't even really opened it.
Is there ... any hope for me if I wanted to become one?
[Adventurer, Set Forth!]
I have decided to see the outside world for myself.
How someone becomes a Trekker—the answer can only be found out there in the real world.
If everything goes according to plan, I will climb over the high garden wall at midnight tomorrow.
I hope Mother and Father will not be angry. After our last argument, they apologized to me and even had the kitchen make my favorite honey-butter pie.
But I cannot go on like this. I have lived the same life for sixteen years, and I have had enough.
I cannot become the graceful and virtuous young lady they want me to be.
I want to sit on a tree branch and feel the wind, lie in the grass and watch the stars, and meet friends who love adventure as much as I do.
Please forgive me. I am leaving.
The Greatest Adventurer's Guide in the World (Part Two)
The first night after running away from home, I finally made it over the wall—only to discover there was nowhere fun to go.
The city was silent in the middle of the night. Every courtyard gate was shut, and even the usually noisy doggies were asleep.
I walked three whole streets without finding a single shop open. The inns all required identification, so I had nowhere to stay.
To avoid being caught by the patrol guards, I had no choice but to return home before dawn and pretend nothing had happened.
This was nothing like what I had imagined. I need to come up with a better plan.
As my parents always say, "Failure is the mother of success."
So although my first night out was a failure, it only means I am one step closer to succeeding!
[Ashwind Clan]
I first met Ashwind's members on the third night of my "Adventurer Plan."
I had done my homework. Ash District was where I wanted to go; it had all sorts of people.
Only after arriving here did I realize the night could be so ... lively.
I was dazzled by everything at the night market and was about to pay when several girls on skateboards suddenly appeared.
They told me the vendor was a swindler who sold fakes and owed them a whole lot of Dorra.
They smashed his stall. He called people over to fight them; but they knocked all his cronies over.
That was just ... so cool! I want to become a great hero who punishes evil and helps the innocent, just like them!
[Fading Adventures and a New Beginning]
Two weeks have passed since the first time I snuck out of the house.
A great deal has happened during these days. Ashwind's members have taught me some street-fighting techniques, and I'm able to protect myself now.
These days, evening is what I look forward to most. After saying good night to Mother and Father, I would sneak out. Vivian and Caterine have both promised to keep my secret.
But still, that's not really running away from home... Next, I'm going to become a real Trekker and begin an adventure of my own.
It's time to leave my old life behind for good!
Weapon Anecdote: The Myriad Case
The first wind blew. Ripples spread across the water, dust rose from the earth, and echoes rang from the cliffs.
Then humanity was born, fire began to burn, and rivers gleamed like gold.
After forty-nine days, the last wisps of blue fire and white smoke faded, and the blade gained its edge.
It could slice a bolt of silk into threads, cut through wood like clay, and cleave waves and clouds.
Yet the proud swordsmith was not satisfied.
"They say there can only be one greatest sword under heaven. Then I shall make another."
Everyone thought she had gone mad. A swordsmith could receive only one revelation in a lifetime. She had already forged the greatest sword there was—a miracle that could never be repeated.
But she ignored the doubters and the warnings from those more experienced.
Years of practice had taught her the shape of the wind, the temperature of water, and the sound of bursting flame.
She did not believe in gods, but she did believe that the myriad things in this world would not deceive her.
After eighty-one days, she did forge an identical sword.
On the night before the blade was to be sharpened, she tossed and turned until dawn. Countless admirers arrived to congratulate her.
Her apprentice knocked on the door and told her that the courtyard was packed. Was it time to begin?
Still lying in bed with her eyes closed, she remained silent for a long while before finally saying:
"Send them away. I have failed."
"This sword ... is nothing like the first."
"Ahem. So here is the question: Do you know why the swordsmith said that?"
The storyteller gave a sly smile. Eleanor had been listening intently and now had to stop and consider the question.
"So the two swords looked identical, but were actually different?"
"Exactly."
"Hmm... Did they sound different when swung? Or require different amounts of force to strike with?"
"You are clever. You came up with two possible answers right away... But neither is correct."
"Then what was it?"
The Trekker suddenly regretted starting this. The newcomer's gaze was far too earnest and innocent, but she had no choice now but to continue.
"Her state of mind. When she forged the second sword, her state of mind was completely different from when she forged the first."
"The first time, she thought of nothing but forging the finest sword in the world."
"The second time, she only wanted to reproduce the sword she had already made. She focused on imitation, not improvement."
"A sword forged in haste for quick success may look the same, but it will feel entirely different in the hand."
"I see..."
"You will understand when you reach my level. Your state of mind when climbing a Monolith for the first time is completely different from the tenth, hundredth, or thousandth."
"Wow! You have a thousand Monolith climbs under your belt?!"
"... That was not the point. Also, are you buying this or not?"
"Of course I am."
Eleanor beamed.
"... Make sure you really want it. I don't do returns."
"I do want it! Hearing such a wonderful story was already worth the price!"
"You really are something..."
The Trekker sighed, unsure if she was too innocent or simply too foolish.
"Fine. Take the weapon."
"I will! Oh, do you have anything I could carry it in?"
The Trekker glanced around and casually picked up a nearby suitcase.
"I got this from a wish inside a Monolith. It has nothing going for it except being sturdy, so a freebie for you."
Eleanor left with the suitcase in her arms, completely satisfied.
In the end, the weapon she bought was no legendary Artifact. Yet the suitcase thrown in for free truly was strong and durable, and remained at her side for years—a small joke played by fate. To Eleanor, it carried more than tools, equipment, and weapons. It held the stories of every adventure along her journey.
And as we all know, a weapon's fame often comes not from what it is, but from the person who wields it. For a girl destined to become the world-renowned greatest Trekker, even an ordinary-looking suitcase would one day earn a bold new name—
A myriad of things within one case, bound to achieve endless wonders.
