What a mess. Absolutely chaotic.
A girl sat at a desk, expressionless, watching a woman reading.
Libertas, leader of the Kamp Mercenary Corps. Their first meeting wasn’t pleasant.
Machina, who had been traveling alone, was trapped by a criminal group. She incurred massive debt and was forced to work for them, endlessly producing strange items with unknown purposes.
Her escape came unexpectedly. When the mercenaries accepted a job from the group, they grew suspicious of a young girl working there. Upon investigation, they uncovered the group’s true identity and learned Machina had been tricked. Libertas threw a bag of compensation at the boss’s face and took Machina away.
That was one hour ago.
“U-um…”
“What is it?”
“What… what happens to me now?”
“What do you mean?”
“The money you gave me when you took me out… you said it was a loan…”
“That’s right. Until you pay it back, you’re part of the Kamp Mercenary Corps.”
“So… what do I have to do…?”
She thought that after spending that much to get her out, Libertas would make her do something dangerous.
But the answer completely surprised her.
“What do you mean…?”
Libertas sounded genuinely confused. Machina stared at her blankly.
“Honestly, I haven’t thought about that.”
“Uh… then I…”
“Just do what you want. Whether it’s hunting monsters, repairing weapons, or doing engineering research.”
Libertas smiled at her.
“This bond may have started with debt, but welcome to the Kamp Mercenary Corps.”
