Codex

Her true origin is now beyond verification; the earliest, most fragmented records of this ancient "deity" date back thousands of years. No two eyes see her the same. She alters memory without a trace, weaving her image into the minds of those who look upon her until they believe she is the only thing that has ever mattered. Unlike most other Awakeners, she is almost entirely void of human emotion or sentiment. She is a thought, a delirious whim, a wisp of drifting mist. To some, she is Xu; to others, Liu, Li, Qian, or Zhang. She is born of Rapture and pursues the endless pleasure derived from Chaos. Yet she is not entirely beyond comprehension. To those she favors—those who grant her the utmost delight—she may reveal a glimpse of her true name, a name that does not shift or fade like the rest: Qiān Shàn Xuán Nǚ, "The Obsidian Matriarch of Thousand Fans".

Basic Information Awakener Level 1

Elegant, alluring—an Eastern "deity" of fatal charm. Legend has it that when she lowers her fan, you will see the face of your most beloved reflected beneath. Yet legends are merely legends. Pray that her gaze never falls upon you. Once she seeps into your memories like a pervasive night mist, nothing will remain of your mind but a delirious, hollow obsession.

Story: I Affinity Level 3

In A.F. @16@1, a cargo ship with no traceable voyage records or authorized paperwork silently docked at the Londinium Freight Harbor. The vessel was later confirmed to have originated from a port in the ancient Panlong Empire of the Far East. On the night of its arrival, harbor workers and nearby residents reported a collective dream of an Eastern woman with raven hair, obsidian eyes, and skin like ivory. Witnesses described her as both "fascinating" and "hauntingly familiar." Notably, several male witnesses exhibited catatonic symptoms while providing their accounts. Mythag's Investigators searched the ship immediately. Strangely, despite pervasive sounds of giggling and high-level Gnostic Responses, no trace of a Silver Core was initially found. The following day, Lord Dexter entered the hold. Inside a ceramic vase that had already been searched multiple times, he discovered a Silver Core enveloped in a thin, clinging mist. As of A.F. 314, this Silver Core was deemed "unawakenable" by all known methods. It was not until the arrival of the current Keeper, @3, that the Silver Core awakened spontaneously. Story: II Affinity Level 5

Xu appeared on campus just as naturally as she once drifted through palaces, royal tents, and various societies in the Far East. No one can say for certain when she first appeared. To all who meet her, she feels instinctively familiar—a long-lost friend, or perhaps a cherished lover—even if they have never shared a single moment of their lives. Only a rare few among the Awakeners maintain a preternatural wariness of her. Or, more accurately, only those of exceptional power can detect the anomaly: Xu, clinging and pervasive like a mist, seeping into their memories. The Mythag Administration once debated whether she required strict containment, even considering the development of specialized countermeasures. Yet, Xu dissolved these anxieties with a series of clandestine deals and a single promise: "My intentions do not lie with these little ones."

Story: III Affinity Level 7

...To offer sacrifice where none is due is named Profane Rites. It is a delusion that devours the wealth of the people, persisting despite every decree of prohibition. The coastal folk are steeped in the habit of venerating false gods, driven by a passion for raising rustic shrines and unhallowed altars. Vast fortunes are squandered while fields and looms lie fallow, yet the hamlets remain blind to the rot within. Time and again, the magistrates raze these dens to the ground, only for them to sprout anew the moment the garrison withdraws. Most grievous are the foreign vagabonds. Settling among our villages, they have taken their own sacred icons and turned them upside down, distorting them to resemble the sign for a "Well"—the character "井". The deities enshrined therein—both the masters and their attendants—possess verifiable histories; they are largely women who met with violent or unjust ends. In the beginning, the flock consisted of mere peasant women, stage-players, and common streetwalkers. But soon, wife brings husband, mother brings son, and the prostitute brings her patron. Having swollen in rank, they form shadow factions for private gain. It has become a dark wonder to see entire clusters of villages rally behind a single figure—some to infiltrate the halls of officialdom, others to raise private militias to wage war upon their neighbors. @4@4@3@2 The following handwriting is illegible, except for several lines of very neat handwriting in @3. Translated by the Linguistics Department, the text reads: "Shameless old wretch. His views are so warped, his prose so utterly tedious. I was bored, so I raised a few crickets to watch them fight—and still, he must wag his tongue and prattle on about it..." Story: IV Affinity Level 9

Have you ever felt the world grow so deathly quiet that you felt the urge to shatter something, just to hear the sound? Lust is the silver vase she hurls; the prey startled by its chime... they will slaughter for love and be slaughtered by love, until their spirit is bled dry and only a hollow shell remains. Then, those drained husks will offer her ever greater dominion, staining everything in sight with a bloody, delicious chaos. A chaos that never ends.
