Codex

Born into a declining noble family, she had been given abundant love and care by her parents despite suffering from severe asthma since birth. Confined to the house due to her illness and frequently plagued by suicidal thoughts, her parents took her on a rare long journey to lift her spirits, only for her to unexpectedly contract Dissolution. Upon returning home, her parents, filled with guilt, sent her to a sanatorium while they traveled the seas to earn medical expenses and searched the world for a cure. As Dissolution advanced, her desire for death grew stronger, yet burdened by guilt over troubling her parents, she continued to endure her longing for death and release. After receiving news that her parents had drowned in a shipwreck while en route to visit her, having no further attachments to the mortal world, she quietly left the sanatorium at night, walking step by step into the depths of the sea. At the moment the seawater covered her head, the black fluid dripping from the triangular D-Mark dispersed, and her long-suffering body experienced indescribable relief—this was the first time, and the only time, she was able to breathe freely.

Basic Information Awakener Level 1

This projected body remains in the form of a girl who passed away prematurely. With tattered clothes, pale skin, and eyes filled with shadows of the past, it silently tells of a history entwined with illness and suffering.

Story: I Affinity Level 3

This is a souvenir Professor Dexter brought back from the Febvre Coast. The mild ocean climate of Febvre is very pleasant. The century-old Sevada Sanatorium is located by the seashore, attracting countless vacationers each year. In this glass bottle, wrapped in seaweed, are some translucent powders. It is neither a message left by shipwreck survivors nor a local sand art piece. Professor Dexter has noticed that the bottle contains silver essence powder, meaning it houses a spirit. He said he bought it from a local fisherman who hesitantly narrated recent strange encounters. A few days ago, early in the morning, the fisherman encountered an unusual fish swarm while fishing. It was neither the breeding season nor the wintering season, yet the swarm lingered. When the heavy nets were pulled up, they found a strange bottle. The fisherman, curious but uneasy, feared the bottle might bring bad luck or a curse. After this, no fish were caught in this area for several days.

Story: II Affinity Level 5

She treats every person and every Awakener with great kindness, never showing any signs of aggression. Most of the time, she stays quietly in her room, gazing out the window. At her bedside, we discovered several well-worn classical novels, along with handwritten essays and poems on notepaper, written in a delicate, graceful hand. "Compared to that Maiden, I am clearly the lucky one." She whispered to the shimmering campus pond, facing the setting sun. She rarely takes part in outdoor activities—though rather than saying she is unwilling, it might be more accurate to say she simply doesn't know how. That Maiden-like Awakener seems to lack a great deal of common knowledge about everyday life. On several occasions, we also witnessed her conversing with the fish in the fountain in a strange sound—like bubbles being exhaled, or the hoarse gurgle of someone drowning. Yet her expression remained calm and serene, as if she were exchanging comfort with a dear friend. In that moment, we all believed she had found true peace.

Story: III Affinity Level 7

One step, then another, I slowly walked into the water. The nurse at the sanatorium never allowed me to go this far. I hope a patient who will soon be unable to afford the sanatorium's fees doesn't cause her too much blame. The sunset's afterglow reflected on the sea. Waves approached gently, lifting my skirt softly. The seawater's body temperature felt warm like a mother's embrace. My body had never felt as light as it did at this moment; a desolate volcano lay within my chest, and now only the sea breeze remained there. "Let's go home." I heard the sea calling me in my parents' voices. They went to the other side of the sea to raise money for my treatment. If I hadn't been given such an unfortunate body, they wouldn't have had to struggle so much. If only I could vanish quietly into the sea on a moonlit night... I had thought this countless times, but thinking of my parents' sorrowful faces, I could only give up. But one day, on a moonlit night, the ship my parents were on quietly disappeared into the sea. "Let's go home." I used all my strength to quicken my pace. The sea always calmly accepts all the suffering souls, and for me, the place where my parents are is the eternal refuge. When the darkness descends from all sides, I was finally able to breathe freely for the first time in my life

Story: IV Affinity Level 9

I love the sea. Febvre's sea. The Prussian blue sea. The sea with warm, moist breezes. The sea that looks like a painting from the sanatorium's window. The sea with returning sails. The sea nurturing countless lives like a mother. Now, I've finally returned to the tranquil sea, back to before birth, back to being enveloped in my mother's amniotic fluid. The currents gather the unfortunate Fragments, piecing me together among bones and coral. The deep-sea fish swim past, listening to the laments of fate's suffering. Mother, if I could be born again, would I be happier?
